History of the 640th RTI.

  • 15th December 1941. 640th Tank Destroyer Battalion is authorized

  • 25th July 1942. The 640th was ordered overseas and participated in WWII operations in the Pacific Islands (Solomon Islands, Philippines, etc.)

  • 1956. The 640th Regiment (Regional Training Institute) was re-organized as the Utah Military Academy.

  • 1989. Accredited and re-designated as the Region V NCO Academy

  • 1992. Expanded courses to include 13 CMF Field Artillery.

  • 1998. Re-designated as the 140th and divided into two battalions.

  • 2000. Re-designated as the 640th Regiment

  • 2004. First recognition as an institute of Excellence in the Army School System.

  • 2005. Expanded mission to include 35CMF MOS-Transition Courses.

  • 2006. Re-organized with 4 Battalions (NCOA, General Support, FA, MI).

  • 2009. Expanded to 25 CMF Signal Corp (2nd Battalion).

    The DFAC does NOT accept credit cards, but there is an ATM before reaching the counter. The DFAC does not accept anything higher than a $10 bill as per standard operating procedures (SOP). M-Day/TPU Soldiers will be issued a meal card on their first day of class and will not be required to pay for their meals. AGR/ADOS and Active-duty Soldiers must pay for their meals in the DFAC. If you have a personal lifestyle dietary choice, such as vegetarian, vegan, kosher, etc., please understand we have a select menu to abide by and will not be able to provide or cater to all needs. If the dietary need is medical, allergy, or religious, you must provide documentation from either a certified physician or a chaplain for an accommodation.

        Ruck March Challenge

        Don't forget to bring your backpack to the course! The 640th RTI invites you to participate in a 26.2 mile ruck march challenge. While attending our courses, complete a total of 26.2 miles with at least 35 lbs. and earn the 640th Regiment participant medal of completion. Do it all at once or break it up into shorter routes completed over a period of time.

        How to participate:

        • Marchers must have a minimum of 35 pounds, including their backpacks, unless a profile states otherwise.

        • Any style of backpack can be used as long as the total weight reaches at least 35 pounds.The frame of the backpack will count towards the 35 pound limit.

        • Weighted Vests are allowed or counted as weight.

        • Refunds will NOT be authorized once registered nor will they be issued due to inclement weather or cancelation of the march.

        • Good sportsmanship is expected at all times!
