State Tuition Assistance (STA)

The State Tuition Assistance program provides up to $7,000 in tuition assistance for ALL accredited post-secondary schools and some certificate programs. It is not limited to schools located in Utah. Students must apply for STA through the portal. Requirements for this program are separate from the Army FTA.

State Tuition Waiver (STW)

The State Tuition Waiver is for full-time students (12-18 credit hours) attending a state of Utah public college or university for the Fall and/or Spring semester. Applications for 2026-2027 are closed but members may submit an applicaiton for the waitlist. Service mambers may combine this program with STA to pay for other education fees.

State Student Loan Repayment (SSLR)

The SSLR program provides up to $7,000 in loan repayments to Federal/University loan agencies. Funds are available for FY2026 (ending 30 June 2026). Service members must have a diploma from an accredited post-secondary school and submit the required paperwork to receive the funds.

GI Bill Program Information

All GI Bill® benefits administered by the Department of Veteran's Affairs that provides basic educational assistance for traditional/M-day Soldiers actively serving in the Selected Reserve.

To apply for all GI Bill® benefits you must submit online through the VA

**Below are the most common education assistance programs for Guard members. For other programs contact our office or the VA directly.

Basic education benefit for traditional M-day Servicemembers

To Qualify

Have a six-year enlistment contract, extension, or Officer Service Agreement.
Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Complete initial Active Duty for Training (IADT) or Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC).

What do you receive

$466 per month for full-time enrollment (FY24)
Payment is tax-free and is made directly to the Soldier each month from the DVA
CAN be combined with Federal Tuition Assistance and all State education program benefits.

Kicker - Depending on your category and date of contract, either $200 or $350 per month added to your basic GI Bill payment.

This is not an automatic benefit, Service members must qualify. To qualify for this GI Bill® member must serve at least 90 days in a period of qualifying active duty on or after September 11, 2001:

Service in any active component
Title 10 USC Sections 688, 12301 (a), 12301(d), 12301 (g), 12301(h), 12302, 12304, 12304a, or 12304b
Title 10 AGR or Title 32 AGR
Title 32 USC, Section 502 (f) as follows:
- Operation Noble Eagle: September 11, 2001 - May 31, 2002
- Southwest Border (Operation Guardian Shield): February 15, 2019-January 20, 2021
- COVID-19 Pandemic Response: March 22 2020 -July 1, 2022
- Capitol Police (59th Inauguration): January 11, 2021 - May 23, 2021
Serve for continuous days and separated due to a service-connected disability or injury

Tuition and Fees

Up to 100% off in-state tuition at public schools
Effective 1 Aug 23, up to $27,120.05/year at private or foreign schools

Books and Supply Stipend

Up to $1,000/academic year ($41.67/ credit hour)

Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA)

Equal to BAH rate—E5 with dependents
$1,054.50 if attending only online classes

Payments Pro-rated Based on Your Qualifying Service

36 Months = 100% (Includes Purple Heart Recipients)
30 Months = 90%
24 Months = 80%
18 Months = 70%
6 Months = 60%
90 Days = 50%

What do your dependents receive?

Dependents receive same payment tier as the Soldier
Spouses may use transferred benefits immediately
Child/Children:
- Cannot use the benefit until transferring Soldier has completed10 years in the Armed Forces.
- Can begin using the benefit on their 18th birthday or upon high school graduation, whichever comes first.
- Eligibility ends on their 26th birthday or benefits are exhausted.
- Natural, stepchildren, adopted children and wards and foster children who have lived with the SM for 12 months are eligible
- You can modify and/or revoke months for any dependents you originally transferred month of benefits to – even after you separate from service

IMPORTANT! You must be currently serving to add a "new" dependent

Have qualifying active duty service on or after July 1, 1985 or AGR service after Nov 29, 1989
Complete two years on Active Duty or AGR (Title 10/32) for 80% rate
Complete three years on Active Duty or AGR (Title 10/32) for 100% rate.
Must Complete 24 months before use
Complete a mobilization of at least two continuous years (730 days), or complete 20 months of a 730 day mobilization and be discharged at the convenience of the government
Complete a DD Form 2366 and have pay reduced by $1,200

A monthly payment paid directly to the Soldier based on amount of active duty served.
3+ yrs of service = $2,358 per month (Full-time enrollment
2-3 yrs of service = $1,913 per month (Full-time enrollment
Top Up Program: If on active duty, you can use the MGIB-AD to pay tuition expenses not paid by Federal Tuition Assistance
Optional Plus-Up Program: Allows Soldiers to contribute up to an additional $600 which will add up to $150 per month to your payment

Testing Center

Our testing center is open Monday - Thursday offers a variety of tests: DLPT, DLAB, OPI, AFCT, SIFT and Pearson VUE tests.

Morning session: 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Afternoon Session: 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

SIFT, AFCT and Pearson Vue tests are offered the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month.
