Student School Loan Repayment (SSLR)

SSLR Loan Repayment will open Monday, January 12 at 12:01 a.m. on a first come, first serve basis. Packages must be complete.

General Information

  • This program is supported with Legislative funding for State Tuition Assistance from the state of Utah each fiscal year.
  • Applies to accredited programs for a FIRST degree from associate to Post doctorate
  • Members must provide a copy of ALL diplomas for post secondary degrees
  • Service members are authorized up to $7,000 per fiscal year (1 July to 30 June)
  • Service members must choose between State Tuition Assistance (STA) or Student School Loan Repayment (SSLR)
  • The loan payment will be paid directly to the Federal loan processor (or in some cases, the college/university)
  • SSLR is subject to availability of funds. This means that authorized yearly limits (e.g., $7,000) might change year-to-year based on funds.
  • Service obligation to the Utah National Guard from the date of submission for loan repayment is two years.

FY2026 SSLR Policy

Eligibility

Utah National Guard Members who:
  • Completed a degree at an accredited educational institution
  • Are in good standing with the Utah National Guard
  • Are requesting repayment for the first accredited degree at this level
  • Have an ETS that extends at least two years past the approval date or sign a Statement of Agreement stating that they understand they are subject to recoupment of the funds from the state of Utah if they do not fulfill their obligation

How To Apply

Members can apply after 12:01 a.m. on January 12. There is no waitlist.

Application Packet Must Include:

  1. Application for the Student School Loan Repayment (SSLR) Program
  2. Signed Statement of Agreement
  3. Copy of the original loan paperwork showing the start and end dates of the loans - these dates must be prior to the graduation date on the diploma
  4. Current invoice or statement from the loan provider(s) with name, loan number, proof of loan, and "remit payment" information.
  5. Copy of all diplomas from post-secondary institutions--the first degree at any level is the only loan repayment eligible for this program.
