DRAPER, Utah — The Utah Army National Guard welcomes its new assistant adjutant general during a
change-of-command ceremony scheduled to occur Saturday, June 8, at 2:30 p.m. at Camp W.G. Williams on
Tarbet Field.
During the ceremony, Brig. Gen. Joseph W. Green will relinquish the role of assistant adjutant general of the
Utah Army National Guard to Col. (promotable) Shawn M. Fuellenbach. Prior to the ceremony, Fuellenbach
will be promoted to the rank of brigadier general.
Fuellenbach, a Draper resident and native of Richfield, Utah, has served as the chief of staff for the Utah
Army National Guard since March 2022. Prior to this assignment, Fuellenbach served as the commander of
the 65th Field Artillery Brigade and Deputy Chief of Staff, Personnel for the Utah Army National Guard.
Fuellenbach has held many leadership positions at all levels of the Utah National Guard, as well as a variety
of staff positions since his initial enlistment as a field artillery cannon crewmember in 1989. Fuellenbach
deployed twice in support of Operation Spartan Shield, Operation Inherent Resolve and Operation Iraqi
Freedom. He graduated from Southern Utah University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration
and holds a Master of Arts in Management and Leadership from Webster University and was a National
Security Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School as part of the United States Army War College. He has also
received many awards and recognitions throughout his distinguished military career.

to have served in this organization for over 34 years. Our team exemplifies professionalism, competence, and
patriotism. I genuinely understand the responsibility I bear in ensuring the training and readiness of over 5,800
of Utah’s citizen Soldiers, preparing them to answer the call to duty at any time. It is an honor to take command
of the Utah Army National Guard as the 22nd Assistant Adjutant General. My focus will be on maintaining
our momentum of growth from the past year and continuing to make this a place where people are proud to
serve.”
Green, an American Fork resident, has served as the assistant adjutant general for the Utah Army National
Guard since March 2022. Prior to this assignment, Green served as the chief of staff for the Utah Army
National Guard as well as serving in several previous leadership roles including as commander of the 300th
Military Intelligence Brigade (Linguist) and commander of the Utah National Guard Counterdrug Task Force.
Green joined the Utah Army National Guard in 1993, deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom
in 2003, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2008, and received the Bronze Star Medal
for his overseas service.

said Green. “I have seen tremendous growth in this organization because of the quality leaders we have here,
and I have been extremely humbled to work with these amazing Army units and their commanders to shape
the future capacity of the Utah National Guard.”
