DRAPER, Utah – Brig. Gen. Michael D. Kjar announced the selection of Command Sgt. Maj. Kyle Harrison as the next command senior enlisted leader of the Utah National Guard.

“Command Sgt. Maj. Harrison brings a wealth of experience, strategic vision, and a steadfast commitment to our force. We are excited to have him step into this critical role and look forward to his leadership as we continue to advance our mission readiness.”

Harrison enlisted in the Utah Army National Guard in 2000 and completed initial training as a medical logistics specialist. He is currently the Commandant for 1st Battalion, 640th Regiment Non-Commissioned Officer Academy where he oversees military education and training of more than 1500 service members. He assumes the role as the organization continues to prepare for future challenges and support state and national missions. A change of responsibility ceremony will be announced at a later date.

As they prepare for the transition, current Command Sgt. Maj. Spencer Nielsen remarked, “Kyle has a solid background within both the operational and institutional domains. He is definitely the right leader at the right time to lead the Utah National Guard into its next chapter.”

The command senior enlisted leader serves as the senior advisor on enlisted matters across the Utah National Guard. Supporting over 8,000 soldiers, airmen, and civilian employees, the senior enlisted leader helps ensure the team is trained, ready, supported, and held to high professional standards, while also advising on morale, welfare, professional development, and the overall well-being of the force.

As he prepares to assume the role later this year, Command Sgt. Maj. Harrison conveyed his enthusiasm for the new position, “It is an immense honor to be selected as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader and represent the outstanding Soldiers and Airmen of the Utah National Guard. Their dedication and professionalism are unmatched across the Joint Force. I am committed to supporting and empowering our enlisted force as we meet future challenges, embrace historic transformation, and serve the great State of Utah and our nation.”
