DRAPER, Utah – Dec. 3, 2024 — The Utah National Guard has been selected to receive a National Guard infantry battalion. The unit is expected to add an additional 762 Soldiers into the Utah Army National Guard. The administrative process and timeline of standing up the battalion is still being determined, following which, the unit will be officially recognized with all its personnel and equipment, not later than September 2028.
“An infantry battalion brings a unique and versatile force to the state that benefits recruiting and retention and provides an increased domestic capability, said Brig. Gen. Shawn Fuellenbach, assistant adjutant general and commander of the Utah Army National Guard. “The addition of this battalion has a direct economic impact across the state. We are working to develop the stationing plan and are confident that these new units will be placed in the right communities that complement these new capabilities.”
The Utah National Guard is a professional organization comprised of citizen Soldiers and Airmen that provide a combat reserve to the U.S. Army and Air Force. Utah Guard units are ready and trained to respond rapidly to any mission assigned by its state or federal leaders.
