DRAPER, Utah – The Utah Army National Guard has partnered with the U.S. Army Reserves, Dugway Proving Ground, Tooele Army Depot, and the Utah Military Museum, along with other Army organizations in the state to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States Army. This birthday celebration is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Jun. 14.

This event is open to the public and will begin with a short ceremony; the 23rd Army Bands performance of the national anthem and a helicopter flyover along with remarks offered by senior military and civilian leaders. After the opening ceremony, attendees can enjoy many static vehicle displays, reenactments, and historic military demonstrations. The event is scheduled to last until about 4 p.m.

“Celebrating the Army’s 250th birthday alongside the Tooele Army Depot, Dugway Proving Ground, and Army Reserve highlights the strength that comes when we work together,” said Brig. Gen. Shawn Fuellenbach, commander of the Utah Army National Guard. “We each bring something unique to the fight, each of us part of the same mission with a purpose that is timeless and clear. This moment is about recognizing our history and how far we’ve come together. I’m proud to celebrate this milestone with teammates who exemplify what it means to serve.  We wish a happy 250th birthday to the United States Army.”

“As we celebrate the US Army’s 250th birthday, it is an honor for Tooele Army Depot to stand alongside our partners: the Utah National Guard, Dugway Proving Ground, and the U.S. Army Reserve,” said Col. Luke Clover, commander of Tooele Army Depot. “Coming together for this milestone event is a powerful symbol of the unity, collaboration, and unwavering commitment that have defined our Army for two and a half centuries. Together, we proudly carry forward the legacy of service and defense that has protected our nation for 250 years.”

“It took an Army to raise a nation,” said Col. James Harwell, commander of Dugway Proving Ground. “It took a group of willful men to wrestle liberty from tyrants. On June 14th, 1775, the Continental Congress authorized the organization of the Continental Army. This act of rebellion was more than a year before the signing of the Declaration of Independence and more than a decade before the ratification of the Constitution. It was this act and the subsequent call to arms that set the course for American independence. Today’s Army is the bearer of that legacy, continuing to secure the nation’s liberty against those who would threaten it. We want to express our pride in their continued service and wish the United States Army a happy 250th birthday.”
