DRAPER, Utah – Soldiers from the Utah Army National Guard’s 118th Transportation Company returned from their 12-month deployment on November 26, 2025. They arrived at Roland Wright Air Base where they were welcomed by family members, and fellow service members.

During their deployment, the 118th Transportation Company served in direct support of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) along the Southern Border, initially stationed in Arizona and later in Texas. The unit executed a wide range of mission tasks, including remote surveillance operations, establishing and maintaining detection and deterrence sites, conducting dismounted foot patrols, and performing vehicle maintenance. Their innovative tactics and procedures were adopted at the Brigade level, significantly enhancing operational effectiveness across the Southern Border.

Through sustained, disciplined operations, the 118th Transportation Company contributed to the lowest recorded levels of illegal alien crossings along the Southern Border in over 50 years. Their efforts directly supported the prevention of human smuggling, money trafficking, and narcotics movement into the United States.

Notable achievements during their deployment include:

  • Over 17,000 illegal alien detections, with more than 9,000 leading to apprehensions by Border Patrol.
  • Over 1.2 million miles driven while performing duties without injury
  • Completion of over 1,000 work orders for maintaining CBP vehicles
  • Support for 750 Border Patrol range events

“We are proud to welcome our Soldiers back home after a year of dedicated service,” said CPT Stephen Hetman, Commander of the 118th Transportation Company. “Their commitment to the mission and the sacrifices made by their families have been remarkable. The professionalism and effectiveness demonstrated by our Soldiers have not only reinforced our reputation for excellence but have also made a significant impact on border security operations.”

The homecoming was a small, personal event with the Soldiers and their families; no formal ceremony will be conducted.

The Utah National Guard is comprised of citizen Soldiers and Airmen who train as a combat reserve to the United States to fight and win our nations wars, and to respond at moment’s notice in support of our state and communities in times of disaster and emergency.
