BLUFFDALE, Utah – Early on the morning of December 18, the Corner Canyon High School Chamber Choir, also known as the Chamber Singers, arrived at Camp Williams to share music and holiday spirit with members of the Utah National Guard.
For most years, this annual performance takes place at the Utah National Guard Headquarters in Draper. This year, due to renovations, the event was held at Camp Williams. While the location changed, the heart of the tradition remained the same.
Since Corner Canyon High School opened in 2013, the Chamber Singers have performed for the Utah National Guard each holiday season. Over the years, the choir has grown in size, but the purpose of the performance has stayed consistent. The music blends patriotism and holiday spirit, offering gratitude, reflection, and a sense of connection through song.
Under the direction of Choir Director Melissa Thorne, the Chamber Singers performed a selection of music that has become familiar and meaningful to many service members. For those in attendance, the performance is something they look forward to each year, marking the start of the holiday season in a way that feels personal and sincere.
Following the performance, one service member shared how visibly the music affected the room.
“When you walk in, you see a bunch of rough and tough, really hard faces,” they said while speaking with Thorne. “After the choir started singing, you see them all start to smile and nod along, and even a few tears.”
For the students, this performance carries special significance. It is the final performance of their year, closing out the season not with applause in an auditorium, but with an act of service. It’s a reminder that music can reach beyond the stage and make a real impact.
For the Utah National Guard, the annual visit from the Chamber Singers has become a meaningful and anticipated tradition, helping set the tone for the holidays and reminding service members that their efforts are seen and appreciated.
Corner Canyon High School is proud of the Chamber Singers and grateful to Melissa Thorne for continuing this tradition year after year. Whether performed at headquarters in Draper or at Camp Williams, their voices have become a lasting part of the holiday season for the Utah National Guard.
